BAFTA Longlist Announced

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has unveiled its 2025 longlist, highlighting a diverse array of films and performances. Notably, “Conclave,” featuring Ralph Fiennes, and “Emilia Pérez,” a Spanish-language musical about a transitioning cartel leader starring Karla Sofía Gascón, lead with 14 and 15 longlisted spots, respectively. Gascón may become the first transgender actress shortlisted for a BAFTA film award. The final nominations are set to be announced on January 15, with the awards ceremony scheduled for February 16.

BFI Future Film Festival 2025

The UK’s largest festival for emerging filmmakers, the BFI Future Film Festival 2025, is slated to run from February 20 to March 6. This hybrid event will feature in-person screenings and events at BFI Southbank from February 20 to 23, complemented by a globally accessible online program. The festival is supported by main sponsors Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery’s CrewHQ.

Edinburgh International Film Festival 2024

After facing financial challenges in 2022, the Edinburgh International Film Festival made a successful return in 2024. The festival is set to continue its legacy with the next edition scheduled for August 15–21, 2025. In November 2024, Paul Ridd, a long-term acquisitions executive at Picturehouse Cinemas, was appointed as the new Director of the festival, signaling a fresh direction for the esteemed event.
